Welcome
to the Realm of Venus, a site about the
clothing and accessories of the men and women of late Renaissance
Italy, with a focus on sixteenth century Venice.
Whether you are a costumer in the SCA,
theatre, film, or Renaissance Fairs, or if you
are simply a lover of art or historical fashion,
I hope you'll find inspiration on these pages.

If you are
looking for late 15th and 16th century portraits
and other costume images take a look
in the Wardrobe.
For articles
on my research
and theory on how the clothes were constructed,
accessorized and worn, as well as future articles by guest
authors, take a browse
through the Library.
For a look at the extant
garments, shoes, accessories, textiles and laces, etc, please

On my home
page:
I spend more
time webbing other people's creations than making my own, but if
you're interested see my Dress Diary.

Want to be part
of The Realm of Venus? If you've made Venetian or
Italian clothing of the late 15th/16th century
and would like to showcase it, just send a photo
to me with a description of your garment, and a
brief bio. If your submission fits my criteria
I'll put you on the "Italian Showcase"
pages - a monthly featured gown - photos and bio.
Submission
Criteria: the outfit or item of clothing must be
a re-creation of an authentic period item, or be
authentic in look and feel (not fantasy). You
must be the one who made the outfit/item, for
yourself or someone else. If the garment is being
worn by someone else, I will require her
permission to publish the photo/s. If the
photographer is someone other than yourself or
the model, I will also require the permission of
the photographer - not for reasons of copyright
(the copyright remains with the photographer),
but for reasons of courtesy. Send me only one
photo to begin with for approval, once approved
send me as many pics as you'd like. It's that
easy!
If
you have any questions, suggestions, or other
constructive input, please email me.
