My name is Hallie Larsen, and I am a national park ranger in Arizona, United States. I’ve been working some years on becoming a better costumer, including 16th century Italian Renaissance outfits. I’m not a novice at sewing, but still a student as I continue to hone my abilities. I’m still working on skills such as embroidery.
This year I have been inspired by three paintings by Paolo Caliari (aka Veronese) around 1560: “Portrait of a Woman” (right, top), “Portrait of a Woman” aka "La Bella Nani" (right, bottom), and a detail from a fresco.
My proposed outfit will be made up of a camicia, possibly drawers too, for layer 1; layer 2 will be a dress/gown; layer 3 will be a mantello; and layer 4, the accessories, will be a partlet, stomacher, girdle, and a set of jewelry including pearls for the hair.
