The Ninth Annual Italian Renaissance Costuming Challenge

April 1 to July 31, 2019

Hi! In the Society for Creative Anachronism my name is Dianora, although most folks call me Dee. I’ve been in the SCA for over 30 years, and I currently live in the state of Georgia in the United States. I am not new to Italian costuming or to sewing; however, although I’ve done a lot of sewing it’s not something I’m skilled at or that comes easily to me. One of the reasons why I look forward to this challenge is the opportunity to push myself and see how I can improve my skills. I’ve completed the IRCC once before, and I’m looking forward to doing a better job this time.

For my outfit, I’m planning to make a gown in the style of the lady in The Venetian Lovers by Bordone (right). I don’t know what it is that I love about this dress, but I’ve wanted to make one for quite a while. The layers I have planned include a shift, an underskirt, and the dress. Accessories include a partlet, a feather fan, a balzo, and a girdlebook. I’m looking forward to this!
