Venice, The
Republic of Venice Jacopo
Tintoretto(?): Madonna delle Rose
Helsinki, Villa Gyllenberg Art
Museum
Note: the
attribution of this portrait to Jacopo Tintoretto
gives us a dating before 31 May 1594, the date of his
death. The style, however, with a waistline which is
beginning to shorten, and a neckline which drops below
the breasts, possibly belongs to the early 1600s where
the waistline and neckline matches and waistline is
almost as short as that seen in Franco's drawings of
Venetians dated 1609.
