"Silk
velvet.
Italy, third quarter 15th century.
Acquired from Mrs Loewi-Roberston, Los Angeles.
The
large-scale asymmetrical pattern, in red and gold, shows undulating
stems, leaves, and stylized blossoms. The pattern unit measures about
30cm wide and was no doubt well over a metre in length. The fragment
inserted at bottom right probably belongs at bottom left."
